I have worked in every division of the company, from retail and rewholesale to irrigation and landscape design. My time in each branch helped me see the bigger picture and understand how each branch works in conjunction with one another to create a truly complete landscape.
After completing my degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design from the University of Missouri in 2018, I transitioned into my current position as Landscape Designer.

Why did you decide to go into this profession/industry?
Growing up I always had notebooks full of sketches and loved tinkering with various projects. Being a landscape designer allows me to combine my strengths as a creative and my love of the outdoors to create something beautiful that will be enjoyed by others.
What do you like most about working in this profession and why?
My favorite part of every project is seeing the site transform throughout the process. There’s a deep satisfaction in watching a concept you’ve nurtured for months or years take shape how you envisioned it and improve a space.
Where did you start in the business?
I was lucky enough to be raised in the green industry and mentored by some of the best. When I was younger, we spent all summer at the garden center or out on sites seeing projects in various stages of development. I have held every position from weed puller to project manager and it’s given me a deep understanding of where the industry has come from and where it’s heading.
What goal have you completed that you are most proud of?
The goalpost is always moving for me so I try not to dwell on anything for too long. My favorite moment last year was being recognized for several awards, including best driveway, by a national hardscape supplier.

What legacy and impact do you see yourself having in the Columbia community?
For the last 40 years, our team has built a reputation as the gold standard in Columbia. As our next generation takes a larger role, we’d like to be reminiscent of the integrity and quality that built that reputation and use it to continue to beautify our community.
Have you always wanted to be in this profession? If not, when did you decide on this path?
Absolutely not! As someone who worked manual labor jobs for his parents’ company, I was determined to work outside the industry. It wasn’t until late my sophomore year of college when I was studying to be an architect that I realized how much I had missed working with plants and the natural beauty that comes with this line of work. It took a while for me to swallow my pride and commit to an industry that really was the best fit for me all along.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?
There is a lot of passion and pride that goes into our work. I truly care about every project we take on and know that we put the time, effort, and expertise into everything we do. We are proud to put our family name on every project and every truck because we know what has gone into each and every one.
